Gold Rose Synagogue, Lviv

jpeg he

This shows the remains of the Gold Rose Synagogue.

It was ruined by the Nazis in 1941.
Only gothic parts of the interior remain to remind one
of the previously gorgeous building which was here.

It was built by the rich Jewish merchant
Nachmanowytch or Nachman in the
middle of the 16th century.
It was designed by the Italian architect Paolo Romano.

Here is a photograph of it in the winter.

jpeg Nachm

This is the entrance gateway.

jpeg Entr

Strangely, the only entrance to the Gold Rose
Synagogue was through Nachman's house,
which is shown here.
